This book is good for young women to read as it looks into the life of a young Amish girl growing up with three younger brothers, as she strives to be the responsible adult her parents wish her to be. While the author doesn't bring scripture or Christian teachers directly into the story line, Christ is clearly seen through the life of this Amish family, and the choices that they make despite many bad circumstances.
The young girl strives for a place away from family and the home responsibilities she faces everyday, and finds solitude in an old abandoned barn belonging to the "Englishmen" that her father has strictly set as off limits to young Mary Beth. When several clues lead her to believe that there might be another person using her sanctuary of freedom as well, she sets out to put the clues together.
